R Racing Shine At Silverstone With Double Ginetta Junior Victory

April 28, 2026

R Racing have continued their exceptional start to the 2026 Ginetta Junior Championship powered by Sunoco Race Fuels season, with two more race victories courtesy of championship leader Lewis Goff at Silverstone this past weekend (25-26 April).

The Norfolk-based team had launched their title defence with a sensational performance two weeks prior at Donington Park. They claimed a clean sweep of the race wins, including their milestone 100th Ginetta Junior victory, as part of a haul of 13 podium finishes.

Full of confidence following that performance, the team headed to Silverstone determined to secure another strong haul of silverware. They had a great track record there too, having won nine of the 11 Junior races to have taken place on the full Grand Prix circuit in the past.

While qualifying didn’t quite go his way, Goff picked up where he left off at Donington once the racing started. Charging forward from fifth to first within the opening three laps of race one, he briefly slipped back to third on the final lap before a stunning double move through Aintree secured him the victory.

He was on course to win again in race two before slipping back to second just two corners from the finish, but he made amends with another superb drive in the finale to secure his fifth win in six races so far this season. That success means he holds a 33 point lead in the championship standings.

Returning to the scene of his incredible Ginetta Junior Winter Series title win last year, Jesse Phillips built on his double podium at Donington with another great display. Following fifth and eighth place finishes, he saved the best for last with a brilliant charge forward to third overall in race three.

After opening his season with a rookie class podium at Donington, Max Murray repeated the trick at Silverstone. Getting into the thick of the action towards the front of the field, an impressive drive forward from ninth to fourth in race two netted him a rookie trophy, alongside two other top-ten results.

Melvin Kalousdian bounced back from a frustrating qualifying session in style with three great race performances. The Red Bull Junior Team driver gained no less than 20 places from his grid positions en-route to a hat-trick of top six finishes, with a podium almost coming his way in race three.

The star of the show in qualifying had been Riley Cranham, with a superb lap putting him second fastest overall. Fortune wasn’t in his favour in the races though, but he fought to a couple of top ten results before a surreal mechanical issue before race three took him out of front-running contention.

Sebastien Leusch started his maiden Ginetta season with a top ten treble at Donington, and he was once again in the hotly-contested midfield battles at Silverstone. A battling performance culminated in a best result of 11th overall and a solid points haul from the weekend.

Matt Allison – R Racing Operations Manager and Head Driver Performance Coach: “While we couldn’t quite match the heights of round one at Donington Park, it’s still been another brilliant weekend of racing at Silverstone with strong performances across the board from our six drivers.

“Lewis put in another superb weekend. The racing is so tight here, you never really get a gap with the tow, but he kept his head and pulled off some superb overtaking moves at the right time. Two wins and a second place is another brilliant points haul.

“Jesse got better and better as the weekend went on. His pace is clear and it’s been a case of him maturing into the battles and getting his elbows out a bit more to fight for his position. He put it all together in the final race and produced a very good drive to fourth.

“We’re super pleased with Max, he’s been a standout driver for us with how much he’s progressed this year already. He’s developing into a really good all-rounder and we were delighted to see him up on the rookie podium again.

“Melvin showed everyone again this weekend how good his racecraft is, moving forward in every race. It’s impressive considering he hasn’t done much in these cars in the grand scheme of things, and that means with experience he’s only going to get better and better.

“Qualifying was brilliant for Riley and it’s a shame the races then didn’t quite pan out for him, particularly the last one where we had a mechanical issue that we haven’t seen before in the six years we’ve run these cars. That topped off a tricky weekend for Riley, but his talent is clear for all to see.

“Sebastien was solidly inside the top ten on pace this weekend and the results didn’t quite go his way. That takes nothing away from his performance though and we’re having great satisfaction seeing how well he’s progressing this season considering his mileage in the car.”

The 2026 Ginetta Junior Championship powered by Sunoco Race Fuels continues next month over the Spring bank holiday weekend (23-25 May), with three races on the Oulton Park International circuit in support of the British GT Championship.
